BitcoinBlack — Designing the card, the brand, and the launch.
The brief
BitcoinBlack is a members-only private crypto card and VIP club — a metal black card that converts crypto into spendable fiat, usable anywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted. A premium fintech product operating at the intersection of crypto-native credibility and old-world luxury members club culture.
EMWX was engaged to design the product itself — the physical metal card — along with the full visual identity system and the complete launch campaign. The brand had to speak simultaneously to two audiences: crypto-native early adopters who recognize the cultural signals, and high-net-worth lifestyle customers who expect Amex Black-level material quality.
Our approach
We started with the card itself. The physical product had to be the brand's flagship artifact — a matte black metal card with subtle embossed branding, confident and quiet, no neon, no "crypto-bro" visual tropes. Material-led, not decoration-led.
From there, we designed the BitcoinBlack™ logo and visual system around the same principles: monochrome discipline, typographic confidence, and the kind of understatement that signals money without announcing it.
We then produced the official launch video and full launch photography package — the complete visual asset library BitcoinBlack used to go to market. These assets supported the brand's initial public launch and continue to live across the BitcoinBlack ecosystem today, with the brand now featured in CoinDesk, Financial Post, and Ratehub.
“The brief was simple: make something that feels like it was always going to exist. No neon, no crypto clichés, no shouting. The card had to be the quietest thing in the room and still be the most expensive.”
